Jepthah didn't realize this, but his outlook on God and life was shaped by the culture he lived in more than by the Word of God. And it ends up destroying a lot of people. Jephthah found God useful, we need to find him beautiful. Jephthah obeyed God to get what he wanted, we need to obey God because he is worthy. Jepthah tried to earn God's favor, we need to receive God's favor as a free gift of his love and grace and let it transform our hearts.
